The Fort McMurray Construction Association is now accepting nominations for its 2020 awards, to be presented at a special Awards Luncheon to be determined due to the COVID - 19 Pandemic.

Whether through innovation, environmental performance, safety or community leadership, the awards celebrate the best in the Wood Buffalo Construction Industry.  The awards are open to all members in good standing of the Fort McMurray Construction Association.


These awards provide a great opportunity to showcase our local firms and help them distinguish the positive work they are doing in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.


Nomination forms for each of the individual awards are available to the right, which includes the award terms of reference and judging criteria.


The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 1, 2020 at 10 am.

Green Building Culture AwardThe Green Building Culture Award is presented to a FMCA member firm that best demonstrates a corporate green building “culture” in terms of how they conduct their day to day business. The recipient will be an industry leader whose actions inspire environmental sensitivity and encourage a “green building culture”.
  • Adopt environmentally friendly protocols
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting sustainable construction
  • Implement proactive waste management programs
  • Use environmentally friendly products
  • Promote innovation and/or employ technologies that optimize results in environmentally friendly construction
  • A completed Nomination Form

Outstanding Safety Culture AwardThe Outstanding Safety Culture Award is presented to a FMCA member firm whose actions inspire their employees to go “above and beyond the call of duty” in terms of how they conduct their day to day safety protocols.
  • Shows a commitment to workplace safety that goes above and beyond legislated requirements
  • Evidence of year over year safety performance (2 years)
  • Evidence of year over year safety performance improvements
  • Letters of recognition for safety performance
  • Provides a copy of the company’s Certificate of Recognition
  • A completed Nomination Form

Young Construction Executive Leadership AwardThe Young Construction Executive Leadership Award is presented to a “rising star” in the Wood Buffalo construction industry with the admirable qualities that ultimately make them great industry leaders. Winners distinguish themselves by going above and beyond the “call of duty” and make significant contributions to the overall betterment of the industry.
  • Must be at or under the age of 35
  • Play a leadership role in the respective company
  • Are committed to improving our industry and unselfishly volunteer beyond the call of duty
  • Earn the respect of their industry peers and make a genuine difference
  • Ethical conduct and professionalism are requisite qualities.
  • A completed Nomination Form

Trade Contractor AwardTrade Contractors are all too often the unsung heroes on extraordinary projects. FMCA’s Trade Contractor Award is presented to a contractor who distinguishes themselves in terms of their contribution on a successful 2019 project. All disciplines are eligible (GC’s of course are not).
  • Overcome challenges related to budget, schedule and/or quality control
  • Demonstrate leadership in terms of innovation, environmental considerations and safety protocols
  • Teamwork is paramount; successful recipient regards the sub-contractor role as a “partnership”
  • Degree of difficulty is very relevant (technical, environmental, historic preservation, etc)
  • A completed Nomination Form

Project Achievement Award
(Under 5M, Under 50M, Over 50M)
FMCA’s Project Achievement Award pays tribute to member companies on projects large, medium and small who raise the  bar in terms of professional excellence.  What set these projects apart are unique teamwork, dedication, innovation,  professionalism and leadership that together culminate in an “extraordinary” project achievement.
  • Must achieve substantial performance in 2019 and must be located within the boundaries of the RMWB
  • Supported local trades and suppliers where available
  • Innovation is paramount
  • Overcame challenges related to budget, schedule and/or quality control
  • Unique safety and environmental protocols
  • Ethical conduct and professionalism are requisite qualities
  • A completed Nomination Form

Suppliers and Service Award of RecognitionThe Suppliers and Service Award of Recognition, recognizes firms for their commitment and dedication to the Construction Industry within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, specifically in the Suppliers and Service sector of the industry.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to promoting a sustainable construction industry
  • Earns the respect of their industry peers and makes a genuine difference
  • Ethical conduct and professionalism are requisite qualities
  • Shows a commitment to workplace health and safety

Outstanding Woman in Construction AwardThe Outstanding Woman in Construction Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution or positive impact to the construction industry in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. This award is presented to a member who is an ambassador for women in construction and has made contributions to the community through volunteer work or business accomplishments.
  • Plays a leadership role in their respective company
  • Are committed to improving our industry and unselfishly volunteers beyond the call of duty
  • Earns the respect of their industry peers and makes a genuine difference
  • Ethical conduct and professionalism are requisite qualities

Home Builder of the Year AwardThe Home Builder of the Year Award is presented to a FMCA member firm that best demonstrates outstanding  professionalism and integrity within their business, industry and community.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Community Service
  • Support of Industry:  Raising awareness of the industry at large, mentorship, ethical relationship with trades and suppliers
  • Customer Service:  Describe and provide proof of your after sales customer service.
